Sometimes I do classes just to see the cool fabrics people will bring. I know, totally selfish. :) We fell in love with these two updates on the classic button down. For both men's and women's versions we encourage adding a contrasting collar, cuffs, and plackets to really snazz up the shirt, but they also look lovely with everything matching for a more traditional feel. In this class we will get to the bottom of more complicated sewing skills like inset sleeves, plackets, yokes, and buttonholes.

Supplies to bring (NOTE: Please pre-wash all fabric and have your pattern printed [if digital] and taped together before class):

  • Some suggestions are Simplicity Pattern 1538, Sewaholic Granville Shirt, Cashmerette Harrison Shirt and Vernon Shirt, Colette Patterns Negroni, or Thread Theory Fairfield . Again. these are suggestions, if you have one you would like to work on please email us and we can discuss it.
  • Please choose ONE pattern and bring the pattern and all notions and fabric listed on the back of the envelope in your size. Note: Pattern sizes are not the same as ready to wear. Please make sure to measure yourself and find the correct size on the envelope. For Example: You may be a 12 at home but a 16 for the sewing pattern.
  • Fabric choice: As much as I love plaid and stripes, it's not always the best decision for the first button down shirt as you are adding the need to match plaid/stripes in addition to understanding the construction of a button down shirt.

Class Level: This class is for Adult Intermediate Sewists. Previous experience with machine sewing, several completed sewing projects, and some pattern reading is required. Please email us if you are concerned you may not be at the right level for this class.
