FAQ After School Sewing Club

First day:

We are so excited to see our new batch of little sewists! On the first day of the session, we will always go over safety and have a lesson in sewing machine basics. We know the kids who are returning want to hit the ground running, but we need to make sure they have retained their previous sewing knowledge. We also want to make sure our new students understand all of the ins and outs of the sewing process.

Student Responsibility:

We strive to teach kids the beauty that is sewing, but we also want them to respect their classroom, teachers, supplies, and fellow classmates. If there are any issues with a student’s behavior, we will contact the parent/guardian and discuss the situation. Students are responsible for assisting in cleaning at the end of class, as well as putting away their projects and equipment.

Snacks:

Due to dietary requirements and potential allergies that students may have, we do not provide snacks for our after school program. Please send your child with a snack (if not provided by the school), as we will certainly take a few minutes to have snack time. If a child has a food allergy, please inform us immediately so that we can ensure that other students will not bring that snack to class.

Absences:

Because of the scheduling needs for the schools and our teachers, we will not be able to provide makeup sessions for children that miss a day. Please let us know as soon as possible if your child will not be attending class so that the teacher does not worry about their whereabouts.

Pick Up:

In compliance with Seattle Public Schools (and surrounding areas), the parent/guardian must be physically present and sign the child out from sewing class. You cannot pull up to the school and ask your child to come out. You must come in and sign them out, unless they are being sent to after school care or have written permission to walk home from school.  If your child will be picked up early or picked up by a different person, please email us immediately. We will not let your child be picked up by an unauthorized person.

Late Pick Up:

We completely understand that you may be late at some point to pick your child up. Still, we need to be respectful to our teachers, schools, and volunteers who will have stay late to supervise any unattended children. We do allow a 10 minute grace period, but if a parent is habitually late (more than twice) beyond 10 minutes, we reserve the right to charge a penalty of $5.00 for every 15 minutes. This is subject to change if the school has a plan for student supervision, such as after school care or volunteer care.

FAQ Kids Studio Camps & Classes

Location:

Please review the class description on where your camp/class is located. The majority of camps and classes are at our Greenwood location, however, we are now expanding to other schools for summer programming, and this is important for you to know.

Made Sewing Studio:
124 N 103rd St Suite A, Seattle, WA 98133

Drop Off & Pick Up:

Please know that we l-o-v-e seeing your kids! We also need time to prep for class and clean up after. With this said, we respectfully ask that you drop your children off at the start time of class, and pick them up at the end time. We are always willing to be flexible, so if you need to drop your child off or pick them up later, we must have more than 24 hour notice and the occasion might be subject to additional fees. Please contact us for further information.

Parking:

Please note that the parking in front of the studio is not ours. We know it might be tempting to pop into a spot and run up to get your child, but we promise you, it always takes longer than you think…they are probably knee deep in fabric and fun! Please find street parking to pick up the kids. They will and have towed parents from the front lot, so please be careful.

Supplies:

The best part of sewing is picking out our fabric! We have found, over the years, that the kids love doing this on their own. Please look at our class description to find out what supplies are needed for class. We do not have fabric or notions on hand at the studio. If you have any question on what you need to bring to class please don’t hesitate to email us for more information and help.

Snacks, Lunch, and Outerwear:

Due to dietary restrictions and allergies that the kids may have, we do not provide snacks or lunches for our camps. Please send your child with a snack and lunch as we set aside time during the day for both. It is imperative that we know immediately if any child has a food allergy, so that we can alert other parents if need be. For lunch we often go outside to get some fresh air and play at a few local playgrounds. Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor gear (rain jacket, sunscreen, etc.) to go outside.

Cancellation/Re-Schedule Policy:

No refunds are offered for classes or camps. As camps and classes are in high demand, we will do everything we can to call upon our waitlist to take your child’s place if they cannot attend. Cancellations received two weeks before class will be able to transfer their camp fees to another camp or class.

If your cancellation is received less than 2 weeks before class starts, or you no-show, you may forfeit your class fees entirely. We cannot guarantee the same class or session will be available for rescheduling. Classes are subject to change or cancellation based on low attendance.

With that in mind, we know you many not finish your project in the allotted time we give, and that's okay! Our goal is for you to have fun, and get as far as you can with your project while in class. If you don't finish, it's not a problem, we all go at different paces! You can come back to the studio anytime during open studio time to finish with us, at no additional charge.
